What's in store? (The Weekly NINE)

Posted on: Monday, August 8, 2011

We're switching things up a little bit. I've picked three of my favorite things in the shop to feature this week and have asked Kim and Jennifer to also pick three things they love. Here at Ruby Rose we are a big fan of differing tastes and styles and we always love seeing what our customers and employees are drawn to. Wishing you a good week! -S.

Stephanie's Picks:

Who doesnt get lost in a globe? Where we've been, where we're going...where is that place in the news? History lessons........

I love this very old, fragile frame, combined with the beautiful drawing. It feels like tradition and history. (bottom left)

This matador and his expression (above right) his clothes and stance. There's a lot of story in a little package.

Kim's Picks:

This set of chairs--I like that they look beautiful yet awkward to sit in, but in actuality they are very comfortable.IMG_2779

Sometimes you find yourself liking something...just because someone else loves it so much, it makes you happy too (Stephanie loves this little roadrunner).IMG_2776

How can you not be obsessed with buttons? They are miniature pieces of art work that you can wear on your sleeve.IMG_2795

Jennifer's Picks:

Rugs AND Blankets (and more). How can you deny the beauty of this color and texture? I'm also in love with the muted color textiles as well...IMG_2701IMG_2728IMG_2713

Macramé! You have to see these pieces in person...beautifully knotted texture, amazing beads (and even bells), and pleasing patterns--so much love put into these "handmades". Amazing to touch and ridiculously easy on the eyes.

Getting to Know Her...

Posted on: Wednesday, August 3, 2011

We are highly anticipating this coming Friday. We wanted our customers and blog readers to get to know Natellie a bit so we decided to ask her a few questions. Her work will be showcased at our store for Art After Dark this Friday, August 5 from 6-9 PM. Come and check out the amazing talent, shop around, enjoy small bites (and coffee and lemonade!), and hang out with the coolest people in town. Can't wait to see you!

RR: Natellie, we want our customers to get to know you. Can you answer a few questions?

NS: Yes ma'am I'd be glad to...

RR: How would you describe your work?
NS: I would describe my work as capturing objects that I love and words that make me smile.

RR: Who inspires you?
NS: Natalia Fabia, her work is absolutely amazing.

RR: When you are not creating, where would we find you?
NS: Sally Loo's-Duh!

RR: What can you not work without?
NS: I absolutely can't work without music, there has to be something playing in the background, or else I start singing--which, since I work ourtside, the neighbors aren't too fond of.

RR: What is at the top of your bucket list?
NS: Seeing the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.

RR: What would we be suprised to know about you?
NS: People would probably be surprised to know that I play college basketball.

RR: Thanks for your time Natellie, can't wait to see your pieces on Friday!!

The (Not So) Weekly Six

Posted on: Tuesday, August 2, 2011

(We hope that it will soon be weekly!)

Another of Kathy's super talented family members has a crazy wit about her. We send her black and whites and she makes the funniest and sassiest cards! These are a sample.1

We introduced a linen room a few weeks ago and the response has been tremendous! We have curtain panels, pillow cases, table cloths, quilts and well, you get it. When you look through pages of inspiring books and certain rooms speak to you, they usually have fabrics and texture that draw you in. Linens are one of the thriftiest ways to update and change the feel of a room!

T-shirts and summer dresses with details! Fun fun fun!

Sometimes we are just like our parents, and sometimes...we are opposite. This week, my girl is proving an opposite and teaching me so much along the way. I mentioned earlier in the season that Ruby had chosen to raise a pig for the Mid State Fair. She and her dad took the challenge on and with help and advice from her friends, they raised a winner! Ruby shared a pen all season with her bestie Riley, they grew up together and so did their pigs, Bill and Fill (full name Fill-Up). The pigs sure clean up well!

At first we thought we saw a really bad hair-do (bottom right image), but then later while we were cruising, we realized it was a crazy hat (top right)! We still have a few days left at the fair and will come home with a lifetime of memories!

Is This Normal?

OK, so I shared with you that my mind has been on vacation. I thought I'd share a little 'funny' with you to see what I am dealing with upstairs in this brain of mine.

I went to my favorite cafe, Sally Loo's, to meet two of my favorite people for a little breakfast slash event planning. After we were done, two hours later, I was walking to my car talking to John on the phone and I couldn't find my keys.

I looked in the car and...yep, there they were! John says "call AAA, that's why we pay the big bucks". After groaning a bit, I decided to check the door...and yep, it was open. And then, I noticed something..."John, gotta go, call you back later".

I couldn't believe it! The motor was still running! Yep, I parked it and apparently just walked away. Almost ran out gas!

Ha! Now you know what I'm dealing with. "This too shall pass", I keep reminding myself. I must say, I can now understand how people leave their kids in the car. Just sayin'...

c. my brain lately (a bit 'out of it'!)

There has been a lot going many amazing items in the store, a load of summer activities, upcoming events, etc. It has been a challenge for this blogger to get them on to the computer for you. Stay with me though, I feel the tides a changin'!

What do you do when this happens to you? -S.

The Ruby Review: Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris- 5 Stars

I very rarely rate a film with 5 stars, but this definitely deserves it. Good job, Woody Allen. Lets start with the actors. All amazing; handsome Owen Wilson and Adrian Brody, beautiful ladies Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, and the über-talented Kathy Bates. This film has classic romance, always fascinating time-travel, and amazing recreations of some of the most famous and inspiring artists and writers of all time. This is a perfect movie for anyone who feels like they have been born in the wrong time, dreams about a romance in Paris, or appreciates art and literature. And like a good movie should be, it’s easy to follow and leaves you speechless. Get yourselves to a theater and enjoy a simply enchanting 88 minutes.
