A Memorable Evening

Posted on: Monday, November 26, 2012

You know that feeling when you are having a really special time with really special people and you wish it could last a really long time? That's exactly what was in store for us this particular eve in October. Friends that share a lot of common interests sent out an invitation to their ranch in the hills of Cayucos. Everything about their surroundings and living area was fantastic! I was able to take a handful of photos, though not too many so I could enjoy the evening and not miss out. With their permission, here is a peek into an amazing adventure of theirs.

One of the outdoor areas--a collection of bowling ball art.

An amazing cactus garden throughout the ranch. The large round table was repurposed from a lid to an old farm water tank.

The chicken coop was made from salvage and because of all the coyote in the area, a custom wired run was made for them.

This was soo clever--anticipating school aged kids, typewriters and paper were set out for their entertainment.

There are two airstreams on the property and a canned ham set up for company.....

The walls inside were patched in perfectly--the left wall was patched with license plates and vintage postcards!

...and this interior is darling--look at that oven!!

As you can see, this could be a resort. They could have served us PB & J's  and it would have been great...although homemade lasagna and fix-ins and pie was what was whipped up...

...and the sunset was ordered special!

We do A LOT of reading at The Rose. Shakespeare? Hemingway? L'Amour? Nope, we are talking Vogue, House Beautiful, Anthology, Folk...the list is endless!

Beautifully styled and artfully laid out, these pages can put us in so many landscapes and environments. While flipping through a mountain of magazines, we pulled a few photos that made us swoon--thought you may too!

Brooke- Always fresh.
Molly- Fresh, oh but the more I think about it....no, fresh.
Nancy- Fresh, with bacon and thai chiles.
Ginger- Personally, fresh, but I make the casserole for the family.
Coral- Fresh, I've never had the casserole.

Glamping (glamour +camping)

Posted on: Thursday, November 15, 2012

It seems like "glamping" has been a term used for some time. We love it! We feel like one of the qualities of a junker is a seeker of an experience. We don't want it laid out for us--we have a vision for what we seek and find it.

We've had vintage trailers for around ten years now and we're always stopped by lovely people who want to tell us a story of their experience, share a laugh, or ask soo many questions. We certainly don't mind the questions, and although many people think it's about decorating, there is definitely more to it than decorating.

Amazon just delivered the BEST book on the subject, which will now be the first suggestion we make to anyone who wants info!

We are fans of MaryJane. She lives the life of an adventurer, outdoors-woman, and creator of beauty. This book addresses just about anything from restoration, to safety, to eats, to gear, to... oh its endless!

Also, MaryJane has deemed next June 1 & 2 the international glamping weekend (which also happens to be the next Remnants of the Past show, hows about that!). We'll talk more about this later.....click here for the glamping weekend info.

Here's a few family photos from some of our glamping, our glamping sales...

The Journey of a Buck

Posted on: Monday, November 12, 2012

We are so lucky to have such a fun job--shopping and selecting items that we love and bringing them "home" to display so that they will get adopted...
Recently, we spotted a buck at the Alameda Flea and it was love at first sight. He was ours. We packed him up and journeyed home.

IMG_1617

He sat at the front of our "Moonrise Kingdom" tent and guarded it proudly. First day out, and bam, he sold. We packed him up and sent him off (after we wiped our tears).

A few weeks later, this picture showed up in our inbox! He now has the perfect spot with the perfect family! Happily ever after!

Fall

Posted on: Friday, November 9, 2012

Please don't hate me. Believe me, it's not a popular thing to say, but I do not love fall like most people do. This week, I went on a quest to try to fall in like with the season. I posed the question to a handful of people I encountered one day to find some positives and see what they loved about fall. I asked,  "Can you tell me of a favorite fall memory or tradition that you have?". Here are a few of the responses I received:

Lauren: My family has a cabin at Shaver Lake and we would go horseback riding by the lake and family walks when the leaves turned.

Kyle:  We would get trash bags in the shape of pumpkins and fill them with leaves. When we were done we would dump and play in them!

Kendra: Picking apples and going home to make applesauce! Yum.

Judy:  We started going to Big Sur as a family. One year my daugter brought a frozen turkey and frozen water bottles and we played Turkey Bowling! We play it every year!

Stephanie (not me): My favorite memories are simple--going out to pick out our pumpkins, corn stalks, and gourds!

Cool customer:  We have a cabin in the Adirondaks and would go there when the leaves turn. It's small and cozy and perfect!

Well, thank you all! I am going to try to give Fall another look this year. Two things are already making me like the season a bit more...

The special delivery of this beauty by our friend Carol!
