Everyone knows that we love a good road trip!
The first question up is usually, "What to wear???"
This photo from the Nordstrom catalog made for perfect copycat material.

This was another Free People catalog photo. I am especially partial to this one because Ruby agreed to model for us! She is usually behind the lens.

The dress is $58 (size 8), the sandals are $15 (we have a bucket of sizes/styles in right now!), and the necklace is $165--it has 17 vintage religious charms, all sizes and metals.

Happy Monday!

Road Trip Heaven Part II

The yearly white elephant sale in Oakland-this sale benefits the Oakland Museum. They take donations for a year and then set it up for the annual sales. We get in during the pre-sale days and usually fill the trunk. To get in pre-sale you either need to volunteer or donate goods.  This year we joined in with the Glitterfarm gals and Polly Jane and had so much fun that we needed to break out in dance!

IMG_2007

This year has already been amazing! With new goals for the year, we have put road trips at the top of the priority list. We have logged some miles and have made some really fun memories. We've listed a few favorites below.

2013-02-25_0002

Alameda Flea-hands down favorite! Not only do they have everything you'd ever want or need, but they also have the best food trucks ever!!

2013-02-25_0001

Long Beach Flea-this is the flea that started it all for me! Before San Luis, I lived in Long Beach so it is familiar and easy. Lots of mid century, love the price points, lots of art, furniture, garden, and they have also added a handful of clothing/boots/leathers as well.

This may have not made it into the store and may be hanging in my kitchen...

The High Noon Western Show in Mesa Az.-we have some friends that are the rock stars of this show (my opinion as well as others). It happens once a year and is was so worth the trip if you love authentic western goods.

IMG_2014

This is not a flea market and there are not deals, though the prices are in line to market value. This wasn't a trip for resale but rather for looking and learning. I did bring home some earrings and a pair of moccasin boots that I bought from Mary Emmerling (more on that later).

We also highjacked some tumbleweed that I had wanted to use for a display coming up. The mister wasn't thrilled but he played along!

On the way home, we drove through Joshua Tree, stayed nearby at the Roughley bed and breakfast in 29 Palms and hit some thrift stores nearby.

An amazing start to the year!

The Classic Fisherman

Posted on: Tuesday, January 8, 2013

The Irish Classic, which originated in the Aran islands has been around for centuries. Families, clans, islands would each have a pattern that was distinctive to each. Some stitch patterns have a traditional interpretation, often of religious significance. The honeycomb is a symbol of the hard-working bee. The cable, an integral part of the fisherman's daily life, is said to be a wish for safety and good luck with fishing. The diamond is a wish of success, wealth, and treasure. The basket stitch represents the fisherman's basket, a hope for a plentiful catch.

FishermenSweaters

They became so popular in the U.S. when JFK was seen wearing them in the 60's Since then, they have become a classic!
