Way Out West: Paso Robles
Posted on: Friday, September 26, 2014
In this blog series we highlight the great things to see and do Way Out West. You don't need to step far from our coast to discover great adventures-make it a day or a weekend, grab your sunhat and go...Summer is setting, but we are far from finished with our traveling. This time, we took an afternoon up to Paso Robles--the Central Coast's renowned wine region. Though there are hundreds of wineries, we wanted to spend some time strolling around downtown. If you find yourself needing a bit of inspiration not too far from home, we highly recommend a day in Paso. Centered around a tree-full park, shops and restaurants are all within a leisurely walking distance.
SHOPS
Firefly: a longtime favorite shop in Paso, this store has a little bit of everything: clothing, jewelry, handmade furniture, cookbooks & more
Paso General Store: a gift/novelty shop in which the one for you, one for me buying technique works flawlessly
Sole Tree: love Anthropologie's shoes? This store carries many of the same brands!
Ambiance: even with the flagship only 30 minutes south, they capture their own unique style &, well, ambiance
STAY
Paso Robles Inn & Steakhouse: boutique hotel with lovely grounds, round coffeehouse & award winning steakhouse
Inn Paradiso: another boutique hotel rustically only minutes from the downtown square
GOOD EATS
Artisan: delicious & fancy; their brunch is amazing
Thomas Hill Organics: the best of farm to table!
Brown Butter Cookie Company: Once only in Cayucos, you can get now get these delectables a little inland!

Before we open our doors for the week, check out our top six vintage picks. We constantly update our inventory, and we want to keep you in the loop of the new things coming in! So, without further adieu, we bring you:
1: Tea time or dinner time, English dish ware makes sitting at the table a bit more sophisticated more even the most casual of eaters. These delicate porcelain are waiting to hold a turkey and gravy, don't forget to invite them to Thanksgiving dinner!
2: Tribal inspired embroidery with a drop waist twenties touch, Free People does not disappoint! Pair with a leather cowboy hat and leather clogs for a comfortable school day or weekend of romping.
3: Die cut, Moroccan inspired lamp just hanging out and being beautiful. It makes stunning look simple, and will add the finishing touch to your perfect setting.
5: We lay out the red carpet for you here at Ruby Rose--well, we lay out the turquoise rose runner (which we prefer to anyway!).
6: A folding table that doesn't look anything like a folding table, that's the stuff. Bring out on the patio for an extra side table for company or use as an apartment-sized coffee table (easily moveable for dance parties). If the detail on the silver tray doesn't convince you, the spirally wooden legs should stop you in your tracks.

Before we open our doors for the week, check out our top six vintage picks. We constantly update our inventory, and we want to keep you in the loop of the new things coming in! So, without further adieu, we bring you:
1: Fling this Pendleton over your shoulder and jump in the car: where will you go? Its classic look and loads of pockets & zippers will be right there when you need a tissue, some cash, a quick spruce of makeup, chapstick or notebook. What a friend you could have in this Pendleton.
2: Been to Paris and need something reminiscent of the voyage? Never been to Paris and need a reminder of why you are working so hard? Either way, this pen and ink print of the great Eiffel Tower will meet you where you're at, and add a bit of stoic culture to your space. Even the mat board and frame move to you feeling more Parisian.
3: Finely woven and not sure it's ready to be finished, this weave and weaving stand make for just a touch of Old World culture. The West will always feel young to us.
4: A tisket, a tasket, a wooden woven basket. Time to bring out your warm wooly blankets and leave them on hand as the weather turns. A basket keeps your space uncluttered and turns up the cozy!
5: Books, books, books! These classics telling Mother Goose's tales, reciting Longfellow's poems, and Tennyson's Idylls are covered in embossed lettering and illustrations--making these judge worthy covers good for looks or for reading!
6: Time to rewallpaper, not. This wallpaper ruler is 6 feet of measured goodness, and desperately in need of a sewing project or a space in your door jam for measuring the little ones as they grow.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Bag: Stephanie

Finally, the bag was mine! It was my turn!!
Oh, where will we go? And what will we do?!
Maybe a margarita and chips will help make up our minds…
A few days go on and I am still not sure what our story will be, I take a time out from thinkin' and head to the drive-in with friends and treats and blankets. Such a fun event and it never gets old!
Still wondering what the purse’s adventures hold, Ruby and I take a weekend and head to Los Angeles for a Jenny Lewis concert. We have followed Jenny Lewis for years—so when we discovered her playing at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, Ruby treated me to a ticket and off we went.
Conveniently the Rose Bowl Flea Market was the next morning, so we were off for a day of boot and clothes shopping—when in Rome as they say. It got so hot and we were super hungry, so we jetted over to our favorite Cuban restaurant and had a cupcake for dessert. The purse is definitely getting the hang of this eating and playing business!
Since we were in town, and it was the last day of the play, Once, at the Pantages Theater, off the purse went (we had to take the purse).
Then back home to take care of business. The purse and I headed out to a few appointments: a dentist appointment (that makes me crazy nervous!) and the best appointment of all. I accompanied one of my besties to a follow up appointment from surgery and was told she is 'cancer free'!! Best news ever!!!
The next few weeks host a huge event for Ruby and I, she goes off to college! HUGE! Ruby and I have been pretty much Loreli and Rory from Gilmore Girls—late night talks, coffee, road trips, on and on and on. We both feel ready, although we could use a hand, so Kim accompanied us to on the move. She has been through this already and we both were so grateful she came! We arrived at her dorm, and transformed her area.
The next weekend, the Mister and I go for official drop off weekend of festivities and goodbyes. We all have talked about college for years, especially this past year (it’s been nothing but college talk)! We are so ready, having rehearsed all the goodbyes, so we parted surprisingly without tears. This is where she should be and Ruby is so ready.
