The Weekly Six

Posted on: Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Before we open our doors for the week, check out our top six vintage picks. We constantly update our inventory, and we want to keep you in the loop of the new things coming in! So, without further adieu, we bring you:
1: A Wedgewood stove is a vintage hostess with the mostest, and this one is no exception. Still in working order, she boasts of an eight burner gas stovetop with cover, two ovens, and broiler below. Think of the possibilities: pies, Thanksgiving dinner, bread...this stove will keep you cooking!

2: A wicker chair for the little ones. This one is just right for a reading nook or porch, and with a good picture book, this sturdy chair will keep them snug and content for hours. Now, time for you to have a little peace and quiet--and post up in your own mama or papa bear chair.

3: For ones a little older, these pocket knives are essential to any good camp trip, whittle project, or for opening presents. Have your pick from our Swiss Army varieties or key chain ready knives, whichever you fancy!

4: Birds of a feather, flock together, so don't go home with just one fowl print! Bird watch from the comfort of your couch with your pick from many depicted bird species.

5: It's a boy! Outfit your little guy with the best vintage shopping has to offer! He will be the talk of San Luis Obispo, or whatever town you take him to. Vintage jeans, native tee and bold button up...with a good pair of kicks to round out his look.

6: It's a girl! Ready for a party or a day of window shopping, this little lady looks good wherever she goes. A velvet red dress for any occasion, paired with good vintage shoes, she'll grow up to be just like her parents--well-dressed and with good taste.

New Magazine Finds!

Posted on: Monday, July 28, 2014

This morning, we are excited to delve into two recently discovered publications: the Weekend Almanac and the Collective Quarterly. Always on the hunt for new magazines sprouting up on shelves, these two are definitely subscription worthy.

The Weekend Almanac | Issue 1+2
An independently published lifestyle biannual curated in the San Francisco Bay Area, the editors reach out to artists, writers, designers, and photographers who offer their weekend pursuits. Warning: from record listening to day adventures to good eats, reading it will leave you itching for the weekend, we suggest waiting til Thursday.

Each issue follows select craftspeople to an offbeat location. For their first issue, they traveled to Marfa, Texas--a small artist's town near the border. After reading this artfully informative narration of the town, the people and its surroundings, it was all we could do not to jump in the car and head east...who's with us?!

Way Out West: Northern CA & Oregon

Posted on: Friday, July 25, 2014

Welcome to long days and warmer nights, Summer is here! It's also time to stretch your wandering limbs and explore: in this blog series we will be highlighting the great things to see and do Way Out West. You don't need to step far from our coast to discover great adventures-make it a day or a weekend, grab your sunhat and go...

Ever since the days of road trippin' with the fam in the Vista Cruiser, the Redwood highways have always been a favorite. Team Hendry was looking for a getaway with tree lined highways and rivers and streams to play in, and out-of-the-way campsites to sleep in.  We found exactly what we needed.

We drove through wine country--Healdsburg and Boonville being some favorites. They had lots of good food and shops, like Jimtown Store, to explore. Then we took Hwy 128 from wine country to Mendocino and this was one of the most beautiful drives of old barns, farmhouses, gardens, vineyards, and giant trees!

Avenue of the Giants skirts the 101 and is filled with roadside stops, little towns, and of course, giant giants. Along the Avenue is the town of Redcrest, where we stopped in to visit Reclaimed Relics.
Arcata had the second best farmers' market we've seen every Saturday morning. So much wonderful food and homemade goods, alongside music, coffee, and beautiful produce.

We always like to make our destination Grants Pass, Oregon--where there is a campground on the Rogue River called Schroeder Park. The jet boat tours on the Rogue are great fun, especially on a warm day.
One last favorite: Jacksonville, Oregon--about a half hour from Grants Pass. It is a very cool old gold mining town with wonderful old buildings, homes, and new shops. It feels like a town that time forgot.

The Weekly Six

Before we open our doors for the week, check out our top six picks. We are constantly updating our inventory, and we want to keep you in the loop of the new things coming in! So, without further adieu, we bring you:

1: Seldom is heard a discouraging word around this dinner table. Feel at home on the range and bring the range to your home with these buffalo embossed leather wrapped glasses.

2: Heavens to Betsey! A super soft leather purse with quilted stitching and metal touches is all class on the outside. Then unleash the wild child of floral print from within, and you find yourself with one well rounded tote!

3: Imagine yourself running along sandy shores with this skim board under your arm...David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson would be proud. Prefer to run the beach propless? This board makes a great decor item as well.

4: The seventies called, they want you to have their chairs and footstool. Unworn, plush green upholstery meets the eye, but what keeps you sitting for hours are their soft, engulfing cushions. For an added touch of comfort and style, throw your feet up on the footrest and watch your cares fly away. Each piece sold separately.

5: Hello operator, please give me number nine. And if you disconnect me, I'll kick you from behind the rack of flannels, you'll find this telephone. Call your friends to play like the old days, with an extra long cord to walk from room to room--no need for wireless.

6: This carpet cloak cuts unexpected summer chills and ushers you through the changing seasons with style and grace. Pair with boots, jeans, skirts or hats--it’s truly a technicolor dream coat.

These tenants have really spruced up our ole haunt! Now open at 1335 Walker Street, Huckleberry Market is teeming with creativity, plants, and hip home goods. Shop hours run Tuesday-Friday 10-5p, Saturday and Sunday 10-3p.

Home to florists, a permanent Grow Nursery pop-up, a photographer, artist and lots more, Huckleberry Market is a found gem in San Luis Obispo. Look forward to workshops, curated gift baskets, art shows and fresh cut flowers coming from this tiny space. Oh, and they'll have coffee and donuts for sale on weekends, plan accordingly.

We are so excited for this new biz! Make sure to make it to their Grand Opening August 1-3, where rumors of an Art After Dark debut, Rushmore movie night, and more donuts are in the works.

Way Out West: Solvang

Welcome to long days and warmer nights, Summer is here! It's also time to stretch your wandering limbs and explore: in this blog series we will be highlighting the great things to see and do Way Out West. You don't need to step far from our coast to discover great adventures-make it a day or a weekend, grab your sunhat and go...

This trip was to see the play Noises Off in Solvang. We popped off the 101 in Orcutt to grab an ice cream from Doc Burnstein's and came across a $1 yard sale. We had to stop and shop. I couldn't help myself from asking the price of an item, all yelled "$1!".

Our second stop was in Los Alamos. Love this lil town, so much charm, and life goes a bit slower here. One of our favorite shops we love to stop at is Keane's Eclectic Antiques, it's very small but packed with very eclectic items. We came out with a handful and left behind items I still can't forget.

Can't say how many times we've driven by here and not stopped to investigate, but today we did.

The Skyview Motel, located right off the 101: you can see it from the highway at the top of a hill. The insides and surroundings are so roadside retro and super charming! There is a new tasting room on a patio with amazing views! If you love retro, go by soon--this motel was recently purchased and will be renovated with a more modern approach.

Dinner at The Hitching Post

Ostrich Land, the place you drive by and say 'Who goes there?' Well, we do! Love the roadside novelty! It's definately worth the $4 entry, and they even had a tacky gift shop (we say that in a loving way).

At our destination! The Solvang Theater: an outdoor theater with perfect evenings with a lap blanket. Out front of the theater is a grassy picnic area you can bring in food to picnic beforehand, or purchase treats here. We brought in a lil pink box from a nearby bakery (tons of them) and the night was perfect!
