Spied by The Rose

Posted on: Thursday, January 13, 2011

Great styling going on over here at The Rose as well as from our recent trip to the Rose Bowl Flea.

During this cold week, we spied a lot of fair isle sweaters, boots, tights, wraps, and denim. The picture of the khaki/brown boots are worn by our friend Deena that sells at the Rose Bowl. She is always in booth T3 and has a wonderful collection of vintage clothing at good prices.

If I am not mistaken, that cool chick with the cart looks a lot like our stylist Hilary...and it looks like she is wearing a new jacket. Isn't she supposed to be shopping for the store?

Sunday with Ruby at the Rose Bowl

A question we get asked a lot is, "where do you get all your stuff?"

The Rose Bowl Flea Market is where we find a lot of our vintage clothing, leathers, boots, linens, etc. all in one swoop. The flea takes place in Pasadena on the second Sunday of every month.

When you enter The Bowl there are a few vendors that have new merch, but the main body of the flea is filled with antiques, vintage home goods, accessories, collectibles...basically everything imaginable. We usually head toward the back where there is mostly clothing, accessories, and mid-century inventory. It is a bit overwhelming at first as there is so much to see! We try to focus on one booth at a time and scope out our style and price.

Occasionally there are celebrity sightings; this week we spied Tori Spelling and Heidi Klum. This particular weekend there were a lot of film crews. It seems that junking is in fashion.

Ruby found this booth with designer shoes and she had to drag me away! I'm still thinking of those Jimmy's...

Pretty much whatever you had when you were younger and have now sold, or the things your parents never bought for you but you always wanted, is here at the Rose Bowl Flea for your bargaining.

Lately, we have been paring down at our house so it is more cohesive throughout...but when I saw the Janis Joplin poster, something came over me and I had to have it. Fifteen dollars later, it was mine! Now...where to put it???

The Weekly Six!

1. Lovely white skirts--layer them or they are classic on their own.

2. Dresses. Can we own too many?

3. This little fabric bag could have been from the 60's as well as current--perfect with the little black dress.

4. Joan & David lace ups--these are definitely made for walkin'.

5. This sweater was spied a month earlier at the flea but it was priced a bit high so we passed. All month, it was thought of over and over and over. Forward to last Sunday, the search was on. After rows and racks, ahh...there it was! And here we have it with its little tag that says it was handmade by "Marge".

6. Lucky Brand snap down.

Local Love: BROOKS Woodcraft & Farris Lighting and Electric, Inc.

Unfinished furniture for junkers-yes way! What has been a family business still is, although Chad and Lyle from Brooks Woodcraft have put their own spin on their store these past few years. Behind the chain-link fence are all kinds of antique, vintage, and gently used furniture.

The fun thing about this place is that there are so man eras and styles represented--indoor/outdoor, mid-century, newish, oldish, and well...you get it! Also, part of the charm of their store is the stories and tid-bits to be learned from Chad and Lyle, as they grew up in SLO.

Located in the back corner is Ferris Lighting, which is invaluable to us antiquers, as they carry parts, lighting, and do repairs. And last but not least is Lyles love of birds, chickens, and animals--you'll notice his corner with feed and such. This comes from his years involved with 4-H.
