Owner Barbara brings her overflowing personality to her Cayucos store: it's a place to eat cupcakes, attend painting classes, shop, and leave with a smile! In addition to the store, Susan Branch will be there from 10-12p Saturday for a book signing. We've collaborated with Susan in the past--she's always been a true junker and a natural fit for the Trail!
 
THE MERCANTILE, FEATURING CATTANEO BROS.

Informally San Luis Obispo's general store, owner Katelyn features local products and artisans in her new downtown store. Varying from specialty and gourmet foods to jewelry, home decor and custom gift packs, the Mercantile is an essential Holiday gift stop. Bring old containers and/or vintage gifts to make your own gift baskets bulked with local goods!

HUCKLEBERRY MARKET

1335 Walker St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

We are so happy to see our old location on Walker Street looking better than ever under the care of owners Carla and Karen. They have created a part florist, part gift shop, part art residency in Huckleberry Market, offering incredible workshops throughout the year. For the Trail on November 8th, they will have a spot to make your own terrariums! Collect vintage littles from your trek to add to these living creations!

SALLY LOO'S WHOLESOME CAFE

1804 Osos St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

We've been in cahoots with the Manueles since they opened Sally Loo's five years ago. The cafe is full of deliciousness--local, organic, and seasonal fare. Not mention their great coffee from Four Barrel roasters. This is the spot to get fueled (or re-fueled) to keep you junking all Saturday!

We've been busy away from the blog, but don't worry, we're working hard at the shop getting ready for the big after party! We wanted to share more details with you about the "stars" that will be joining us at this said party.

Lisa Leonard! She creates the most amazing handmade personalized jewelry that can be worn with jeans or your little black dress! Lisa's hand made creations mostly include necklaces and bracelets, but you can also purchase other goodies like rings, keychains, bowls, (etc.!) and our current favorite--customizable pewter wands! Have you seen her blog?! If you haven't, check it out, you are in for a treat!

Our friend Amy will be there! This girl can sew (yes, she made that apron)! She sews from the heart and is a true upcycler. Amy takes fabrics from old clothes, sweaters, and re-creates the most amazing pieces. Our personal fave of hers is a cuff bracelet she's designed. It's a beauty. You'll have to come see it for yourself!

Lindsey from The Pleated Poppy will be gracing us with her presence! Lindsey is a girls girl for sure! She designs and creates color inspired accessories--hair adornments, bags, pins, necklaces, ipad cases (!!!), the list goes on! Our personal fave is her ruffled scarf! Take a peek at her goods here. Oh, and she has a beautiful blog as well!

Last but definitely not least, the Sally Loo's Wholesome Hut will be at the party to help fuel our bellies for a full day of shopping partying! If you don't know who Sally Loo is, we don't know if we can be your friend anymore. Just kidding! Sally Loo's is old news on this blog, as we are all fans and frequents of the most beloved café in town! Their acai bowls are to die for (go get one now if you haven't tried it! Seriously.) Healthy, local, organic coffee shop goods and drinks will be served from the hut. You don't want to miss out!!!

The After Party at Ruby Rose

On Saturday, April 30th from 9 to 4, down a lovely country road in Nipomo, is this spring's Remnants of the Past vintage show. Surrounded by beauty and in the perfect location , The Dana-Powers House, this show is the "creme de la creme" in beautiful antiques and staging.

Now, we know it's not a party without an after party! And that's where we come in. Ruby Rose will be hosting this said "after party" the next day (Sunday, May 1st) from 10 to 5! We are proud to have Lisa Leonard Designs and the Sally Loo's Wholesome Hut join along in the fun during this event!

Ruby Rose will be open extended hours all weekend--Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 to 5.

Local Love: Sally Loo's Wholesome Café

This magical café is located in the railroad district of San Luis, and is run by the uber-talented husband and wife team Brandon and Jen Manuele. The vibe that they have created comes from their attention to detail, as they are committed to providing the best in local produce, organic spreads, and local talent. I can't even begin to properly describe their amazing baked goods, panini sandwiches, quiche, homemade soups, etc. Oh, and we haven't even mentioned the coffee yet! When you stop by be sure to try the "The Ray of Freakin' Sunshine"--an espresso drink basking in steamed milk, infused with the essence of a fresh orange--mmmmm, so good. A personal fave of mine is the Coco-Mo (it's on the secret menu so ask a barista the next time you're in!). And I can't leave out how incredible their teas and chai's are, oh my! You have to check this place out. Visit their BLOG to see what is going on over at the café. --S.

Ruby Rose: How would you describe your establishment?

Sally Loo's: The neighborhood café we've always wanted. Our homey lil' community.

RR: What is your biggest reward and challenge?

SL: The biggest reward is the crazy amazing web of friends and community we get to have. I probably wouldn't have met you [Stephanie] if not for the café! Crazeballs! Little things like helping throw an event grow into great friendships.

RR: When and where did your love of baking come from?

SL: My love of baking came by osmosis from my amazingly talented mom. My skill set was put to practice in college when my friend Bryant and I would watch the Food Network and we would make dinners together.

RR: You have a successful photography business under your belt and a thriving café--so accomplished at such a young age. What drives you?

SL: It wouldn't have been possible without my parents. They have nurtured my gifts and dreams and lovingly not put up with half-assed living. They continue to help us thrive with their support. Brandon and I are a crazy couple that together take risks we wouldn't dream of if we weren't together. We are just dreamers stupid enough to try.

RR: What was your reaction to SLO being voted "the happiest place" in the country?

SL: My reaction was "Shhh! Don't tell!"

RR: If we didn't find you at the café, where would we find you?

SL: If not at the café I'm probably around the corner at our house. When we do get off the block it's to the beach or Ruby Rose!

RR: What is your guilty pleasure?

SL: Indian food buffet, taking friends to dinner, geeky kitchen gadgets, luxurious salts and vinegars, sneaking off to the city or beach, and going to the Palm Theatre. For Brandon, it's surfing, flea markets, and tools.

RR: What inspires you?

SL: My HAWT friends. The talent! It's insane! My friends could and probably will rule the world! Also, Iphone photos, Iron Chef, Alton Brown, Sally and Banjo kitty, long long drives, train rides, children's imaginations, and traveling to other places.
