Who's goin'??

TGIF

Posted on: Friday, April 24, 2015

We discovered some vintage Instagrams this last week--and this feed is helping inspire our weekend plans. If you are wondering what to do around San Luis Obispo, take a few suggestions from the these adventurers...

Grub on some fruits, veggies and tri tip at a Farmers' Markets--don't forget to get a big cone of popcorn for a possible movie night?

OR take a hike up Bishop's Peak for a new perspective on our town, or stroll with the pup around the Johnson Ranch trail.

OR get to work on your urban farm. The spring chicks are in at Farm Supply, and who doesn't love waking up to fresh eggs right outside your door??

Maybe head to the pool and get a good base started for Summer while the kids splash around; practice your selfies and impromptu photo shoots with the girls; OR just hang out and relax.

What does your weekend hold?

What We're Reading: April

Posted on: Monday, April 20, 2015

This month, two of our inspirational interior design ladies have published new books--and we're drooling, page by page by page (by page).

Justina Blakeney's
The New Bohemians: Cool and Collected Homes

As long time blog and Instagram fans of Justina's, we could not wait to see what she comprised in her  latest publication. We love (and wholeheartedly agree with) her approach to design, summarized on the back cover bio, "she believes that creativity, not wealth, is the key to having an amazing home."
And we are here to announce--we are not disappointed. She breaks up boho aesthetics into six categories: Romantic, Modern, Earthy, Folksy, Nomadic and Maximal--highlighting on point American homes in each. Over 300 pages burst with bold color, new and vintage cohesively arranged and functionally stunning. Then she dazzles with DIY tips like nailing reclaimed wood panels and new handles to the refrigerator and includes recipes like pickled daikon radishes--and as if you aren't hooked by then, she has a complete list of the featured plants with care tips. Three cheers for this new must have, it will bring happiness and wild and free vision to your imagination and space.

Rachel Ashwell's
The World of Shabby Chic: Beautiful Homes, my Story and Vision

Normally, we shy away from the term shabby chic, unless it refers to Rachel Ashwell--her design is a heartthrob, finding ways to under clutter and overwhelm spaces with soft tones and beautiful practicality. Are you looking for all white rooms that are anything but boring? Maybe a few subtle washes of color here and there? Rachel's got ya. This latest book of hers delves how she came to be, taking a personal turn to explore her style and approach to business. When we pick for pretties, we try and harness her spirit, and often ask ourselves, "Would Rachel buy this if she walked in?" Thank you Rachel, for an intimate glimpse into your world--you are free to stop by our store ANYTIME.

Any good interior design books you're flipping through? Leave a comment and share your picks with us!

Before we open our doors for the week, check out our top six vintage picks. We constantly update our inventory, and we want to keep you in the loop of the new things coming in! So, without further adieu, we bring you:

1: Happy tax day, get your return and come get a celebratory treat! Maybe a little miniature redecoration is in order? This vintage dollhouse wonderland would make even Barbie a little bit jealous. From the shag-like stools to bright green cabinet knobs and a micro portrait of you and your beau, this set is both cute and oh so cool.

2: Macrame lampshade with woven and wood base? Yes please. There is something both tribal and modern about this lamp, it has us mesmerized (and maybe a little hypnotized, too, with those spirals running the circumference)! And all in working order, too...

3: Be truly blessed with this Thai necklace! These Buddhist temples craft their own metal and amulets, and the monks bless the pieces before sending them off--a most stylish good luck charm.

4: Clean and bright, and easy to clean back up again--this white couch will seat all your friends while setting a bold backdrop for all your more colorful pieces. A couch that welcomes you to bask in it's glow.

6: Johnny Was has done it again with this lightweight, summery blouse--and what a find with it brand new, tags still intact! We love the subtle detail splash of color on the thread, it is worth a close up peek in store.
