The Romantics

We all have colors and styles that we are just drawn to. We can relate it to a time period that calls to us, or a feeling when you are sporting these pieces. This collection is one of my favorites, it is void of color, although it can stand alone.

Creams, whites, greys, taupes--out of africa--prairie walks--summer days--cottons, linens, lace...
White used to be over after labor day, a major no no, but now it works year round.
Vintage and modern alike, it always flows...

Country Living?

Posted on: Thursday, January 5, 2012

Jenn, my beautiful talented partner in this blogging world emailed me this morning, "Any posts for this week?" I had been on a much needed four full days off, and was committed to getting my house, yard, garage, and self in working order. "Uh, no I don't." Dang, I have been thinking non-stop about work, but only in the year-end, inventory, bill-paying way...not in a creative or filled-up way.

While running errands, I stopped in Barnes & Noble for a magazine/book fix. This is a story of how my 'ah' turned into 'ugh'.

...And this is where my rant starts. If you ask Kathy, Kim or Jenni about my rants, they will roll their eyes like I am craaazy! They usually stop me before I get this far, but Kathy is away being a baby nurse, Kim is also enjoying days off, and Jenni is with her boys.

Anyways, I pick up the first magazine I purchased, Country Living, which is odd, because I haven’t bought this mag in maybe a year. I sit down to relax and read, and OK, here it comes...out of the first 38 pages, 23 of those are ads, and 11 of them are medically related! I look at the cover to make sure it wasn't a health related issue...nope it's not. This is messing with my relaxing, inspiring afternoon. Throughout the remainder of the issue, there are 12 more medically related ads for a whopping 23!

So as I am looking to be inspired but I am now stressed out about: lung function, COPD, joint damage, depression, heart palpitations, the flu, arthriitis, osteoarthritis, heartburn, cholesterol, etc. There is also info on a metabolism boosting powder for my 'bikini plan' (dang, I hadn't started to even think about my 'bikini plan!'). There is also vaginal cream (we wont even go there), and finally on page 129 of 134 pages, there is a correction tucked back there to straighten out a 'wrong impression' that Boniva may have given in regards to postmenopausal osteoporosis!! I realize that magazines must sell ad space, but this is decorating/recipe magazine. Come on, guys.

Ok, that felt good.

Kathy, Kim and Jenni, I want you to know that this was the edited version. You were fortunate to not hear the full rant.

January 12th, Book It!

Posted on: Friday, December 30, 2011

After a long winters nap, I decided that I had to have a meeting with myself. We were camping in our favorite space, in our favorite spot, so what better atmosphere to set up. The comute wasn't very long, so these wheels were perfect for the job.

The first order of buisness was the San Luis Obispo half/full marathon coming to town on Earth Day in 2012--April 22nd.

We have been involved with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society for about 10-11 years now and they have a group Team in Training that will take you from the couch to the finish line for 1/2, full and century rides. They are a group of people in different areas that are just like us--everyday people, everyday lives doing not everyday things, but amazing things.
You see, in exchange for the coaching, life changing events that they help us prepare for, we commit to raising funds for the cause.

Ask anyone who has been involved with this organization or one like it, it is a challenge and an attainable one if you have two working legs and feet. Everyone has a different reason for joining, maybe it is on your bucket list, maybe you want lose weight, or maybe your friends are all joining. For some of us...itt is much more personal.

We invite you to come to a meeting that we are hosting on January 12th, 5:30ish at The Rose. There will be people there to answer your questions, help relieve any anxiety and help you to get started.

There is a book that I will be quoting from that is written by John "the Penguin" Bingham.

More on him later--I always seem to revisit this book right before and during these running commitments--because he is me, and you.

If this isn't the time for you, the time commitment just won't work, you have a little one on the way, or maybe bad feet...there is another job that can keep you part of this event--a supporter, there are water stops along the course and we need supporters like you for that. The requirements are minimal. Think about it. We hope to see you there!

Ruby Rose Drive-Up

Posted on: Thursday, December 22, 2011

Since we are in a city that doesn't allow Drive Thru's, we have the next best thing tomorrow, Ruby Rose Drive-Up! That's right , tomorrow Friday Decembee 23rd, you can drive right into the parking lot that adjoins our store, and if you don't want to get out of your car and shop, we can run over and help you while you sit in your car. How's that for convenience?

Inside we will be serving hot apple cider and sweet Christmas cookies, so you may want to get out of your car. Either way we will be happy to see you and help you finish your holiday shopping,
